● Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888 in Tirutani village, Tamil Nadu.
● His father's name was S. Veerasamiah and mother's name was S. Sivakamma.
● Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was a philosopher, cicerone of Indian culture.
● His birthday is celebrated every year on September 5 as 'Teacher's Day' which started from September 5, 1962.
● Radhakrishnan, who started teaching from the Presidency College in Madras, later became a professor at the University of Mysore and then went on to teach in several universities in the country.
● He was appointed as the 'Chairman' of the British Academy in 1938.
● Till 1939-48, he was the Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University (B.H.U.).
● He was awarded the 'Peace Prize' of the German Book Trade in 1961.
● Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the first Vice President of India (1952–62) and the second President (1962–67).
● He was given the honor of being a member of Sahitya Akademi in 1968.
● In the year 1954, he was awarded Bharat Ratna.
● His important books are - 'The Ethics of Vedanta', 'The Philosophy of Rabindranath Tagore', 'My Search for Truth', 'The Rain of Contemporary Philosophy' etc.
● He was also elected a member of the Constituent Assembly.
● Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's son S. Gopal published his biography in 1989.
